La Couvertoirade was nominated as one of France’s favourite villages by viewers to France3 TV Channel in 2018.
In the heart of the wide open spaces of the Causse de Larzac south of Millau, La Couvertoirade is also classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France – Les Plus Beaux Villages de France. – “in the footsteps of the Templars”. The village is the work of the Tempars and Knights Hospitaliers from the 12th Century. These soldier-monks fortified the city with remparts in the 15th Century. Today the heart of the village makes few concessions to the modern world with a labyrinth of narrow streets, and few houses dating from later than the 17th Century. It is a very atmospheric place to visit.
