As always New year’s eve in Paris is a colourful and popular affair, with crowds from all around the world congregating to welcome the new year in this most iconic of settings.
The main celebrations tend to be concentrated around the Eiffel Tower and Champs Elysees areas of the city, although the more traditional fireworks have in recent years been replaced by a spectacular light show, with only minimal pyrotechnics to herald the arrival of the new year. It remains one of the places to be on 31 December
Paris’ Eiffel Tower (Tour Eiffel) has had a bit of a makeover:
The Tower with its transparent floor and new installations, makes the 1st floor one of the most spectacular and attractive places in Paris. Walk on the glass floor, 57m from the ground, and experience the unique sensation of stepping out into the void. But you need have no fears: a non-slip treatment has been applied, with a transparency effect that increases gradually from the interior towards the central space and covering 1.85m at its largest.
Also on the 1st Floor in the Ferrié Pavilion there is a display and exhibits describing the tower’s construction as well as places for rest and contemplation, restaurants, shops: facilities that invite you to enjoy a pleasant pause with stunning views of Paris.
A champagne bar (Bar à Champagne) has been opened on the top floor.
Online tickets are now more convenient, with an option to download a ticket to your mobile phone — no paper ticket needed.
Plenty of accommodation options near the Eiffel Tower – we can recommend Hotel du Cadran a modern hotel which is within easy walking distance and is located next to Rue Cler – one of the best foodie streets and markets in Paris.
