6-8 May 2006 Avignon (84 Vaucluse, Provence) celebrates its Rose Festival - Altera Rosa. At the 2005 event more than a thousand different roses were on display, and 30 new species of roses are presented each year. Not only that but the event is held in the magnificent surroundings of the Cloister of Benoit XII in the Palais des Papes, which stands as the mighty symbol of the church?s influence throughout the western Christian world in the 14th century.
